Mr. McDermott was on top of the golf world he won the 1911 and 12 US Open and he was loud and brash and full of confidence. In 1914 he was returning to the US from the Open Championship where his ship collided with another ship and this scared John. This had an everlasting effect over him and he was severely mentally disabled for the rest of his life. H would live the rest of his life in mental hospitals and rest homes. His autograph is extremely rare. I’m proud to own 3 of his autographs.
This is a very interesting postcard send from Augusta GA in 1913 to Northfield NJ where Mr. McDermott was the head pro at Atlantic City Golf Club.
